We have officially been approved as a QUALIFYING CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION (CCO) by the State of Arizona

“The state of Arizona provides an incredible incentive for taxpayers who donate to certain qualifying charities like Corbin’s Legacy. Thanks to the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit, you can donate up to $800 and get it right back on your Arizona tax return.”

Step 1: Donate to Corbin’s Legacy to support needy children in Arizona

Step 2: File your State taxes and claim the credit by using Arizona Tax Form (AZDOR) 321

Step 3: Receive your tax credit!

Up to $800 for married filing jointly

Up to $400 for filing single or head of household

No need to itemize deductions to claim the credit

How It Works: “The state of Arizona offers its taxpayers the opportunity to make contributions to non-profit organizations that reduce the amount of tax owed to the state or increase the amount of the taxpayer’s refund, dollar-for-dollar. There is NO NET COST to the donor, and deserving individuals around the state benefit.”

A Parent Speaks Out

Thank To You This Week:

Corbin’s Legacy helped homeless children and their families around the nation with food, personal hygiene kits and required school clothing. One in thirty elementary school children are homeless in this country.  While we respect privacy we had the rare opportunity to speak with a parent, who wished to publicly comment, this is what she had to say:

My family lives in a shelter and we are grateful for it.  My husband and I both work.  We always have.  But times got tough, He lost his fulltime job and my part-time job hours were cut. We lost our house, really we lost everything.  But we have our kids and each other.  Every morning, when we have to leave the shelter, my husband takes the kids to school, a really good school, and then goes to work.  I wait in line to get back into the shelter, so my kids will have a place to do homework and sleep.  When my husband is done working he picks up the kids and comes back to the shelter.  When we get in and settled I go to work but I have to be back before the doors get locked for the night, so I can’t work that much.  I think that in this country it’s just a darn shame that a hard working family like mine can’t afford to live and I don’t hear any politicians talking about it.

We agree.  No child should struggle. #becauseweknewher                          No parent should feel powerless.

Corbin’s Legacy assisted 25 children with food to take home in cinch sacks for the weekend, 11 children with food cards, 10 children with clothing cards, 8 children with hot lunches for a month, 6 children with medical examinations, 4 children with drug prescriptions, 2 children with dental exams and 1 child with eyeglasses.  We also got a thank you note (which we love receiving) that said, “thank you for the weekend food.  I shared with my brother and sister and mother and father.  We ate until Sunday.  Even my parents”.  Needless to say, we sent her family a food card as well.

No child should struggle. No parent should feel powerless.

One in Five Children Live in Food Insecure Homes

cafeteria

This week we helped children around the nation return to school with supplies, uniforms, required medical and dental exams and of course, food.  One in five elementary school children live in food insecure homes.  Here is just one teacher’s story:

“You are probably too busy to help this week but I have a student, a first grader, who is hungry.  At least I think she is.  She doesn’t speak English, yet (I’ll make sure she does by the end of the school year) and neither does her mom.  So far I have been feeding them both every morning with food that I bring from home:  I think she gets hot lunch but I make sure to give her an afternoon snack (mine) before she leaves for the day.”

Corbin’s Legacy is never too busy to assist and we did help!  We called the school and discovered that this child (and six others) were not getting free hot lunches because the paperwork had not been executed.  We paid for all six to get hot lunches every school day for a month.  We also send food gift cards home with these children.  And arranged for a member of the PTO to navigate the free and reduced meal applications for these families.

No child should struggle. No parent should feel powerless.

Cost: $540 Benefit: Incalculable

Elana’s Story

BackToSchool

Thanks to You This Week:

We were able to help, nationally, many children eagerly going or getting ready to go back to school with basic needs that would otherwise go unmet.  This is just one heartwarming story…

The nine line request form read like this, “my name is elana and iam in the eight grade.  I not asking for me but my sister and brother.  They in K an 1.  I have no money for their school supplies or unforms.  Can you help?

We can and we did.  We called Elana’s school and discovered that she is an honor student who is responsible for her younger siblings.  She herself, borrows all her school supplies and uniforms.  We got her school supply list, uniform size and made sure she was registered for and going to receive free meal services.  We did the same thing at the elementary school.

Corbin’s Legacy sent Elana and her two sibling’s food, clothing and school supply gift cards.  The middle school guidance counselor volunteered to take Elana and her sister and brother shopping to make sure that got everything that they needed.  It does take a village.

No child should struggle. No parent should feel powerless.
